The Hunters (Jägarna) DVD

The Hunters (DVD)A policeman from Stockholm, Erik, returns to Norrland in Sweden, to join his brother, now that their parents are dead. Initially he is received as a hero. Even so, he soon discovers that the city is corrupted. And when he starts to look into a case of massive illegal hunting of reindeer and moose, he quickly loses his popularity. More and more it seems to him the whole town is involved in illegal activities and that networks and unwritten rules are more important to the inhabitants than laws. He soon finds that his brother is involved in the illegal hunting as well.

The HuntersThe Hunters is a hard movie about people living a hard life up by the polar circle. The little, seemingly quiet town is not so quiet after all: behind the pretty facade there is illegal hunting, prostitution, rapes, and worse.

The Hunters (Jägarna) is based on a real case of organized illegal hunting in Northern Sweden. It was directed by Kjell Sundvall. The key roles are played by Rolf Lassgård, Lennart Jähkel, Helena Bergström and Jarmo Mäkinen. It is a brutal and tough film, with excellent acting and stunning cinematography. The movie was a tremendous success in Sweden and Scandinavia. The film was one of the biggest Swedish box-office hits ever and received two Guldbagge Awards for Best Direction (Kjell Sundvall) and Best Supporting Actor (Lennart Jähkel). It was also nominated for Best Actor (Rolf Lassgård), Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay. And according to rumors, Hollywood wanted to do a remake of the movie, but the director refused.
